They create nice relaxing and healthy places – good sustainable places to visit for tired activists and other people. (Environmental) activism is still possible here – but in a different way that for people who live in cities or settlements. It requires more networking, past experiences and travelling. Inside Community Zone (1)

Gently but surely a hub of communes developed hundred kilometres southwest of Berlin. Self-governing estates sprang up like mushrooms. Some of them are more spiritually, agriculturally or politically oriented than others. The community in the old mill in Gömnigk is the new-born baby of the Fläming region. Continue reading

A community threatened by a legislation

In the community of “La ferme des sots” in Aquitaine day-to-day life is going on in the middle of a quiet clearing, but in the evening when they gather around a fireplace to share their wine, the inhabitants are considerately talking about politics in their home country. In 2009 a revised version of a law on interior security affairs made by the governing right wing and central-right wing party UMP came into force. The existence of numerous eco-villages and communes hidden in the vast and beautiful countryside of France is endangered. Continue reading
